Still Distracted

Just a couple more inauguration items, then I promise to get back on track. It has been all too easy to get caught up in the presidential excitement. It is as though we can actually relate to this normal family and the awe they may be feeling upon seeing these historical, extraordinary, stately rooms for the first time. My interest, of course, lies in the architecture and living environment of these special families. I found a slideshow of some of our most recent presidents’ homes. Are you as surprised as I am at the modernist style of GW’s Crawford home? It is way cool. And did you catch the CSPAN documentary “The White House: Inside America’s Most Famous Home”?  I want my bedroom to look like the Queen’s Bedroom on the second floor (pic above). I may get sick of it in about 2 months, but I don’t care. I will have a pink bedroom. Domino Magazine also has an extensive slideshow of the progression of White House decor over the years. I was surprised to see such trendy styles – I mean you can really match some of the rooms with the decade – especially the master bedrooms out of the 70’s and 80’s. The most timeless decor award goes to Jackie Kennedy. I could have never guessed her master bedroom was straight out of the 1960’s. Finally, thanks to lucubrations for tipping me off to this pictorial history of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. Really some incredibly moving images there…
