Huge Kansas City Urban Grown Farms and Gardens Tour this Weekend – Brought to You by Cultivate KC
A quick visit to Cultivate KC‘s website will provide you with all of the details about this weekend’s Urban Grown Farms and Gardens Tour, June 22-23. This is the fifth year for the tour, and, according to their website, this is the largest urban agriculture tour in the country. Evidently there are 60 stops on the tour this year. I don’t know about you, but there is no way I would want to tour 60 gardens in one weekend. That would be exhausting! Perhaps they don’t actually expect us to tour all 60; however, with such an overwhelming list, it is hard to know which stops to choose, which is why I was grateful to Jonathan Bender of the Pitch for providing us a list of his five must-see stops. From his list, I was most excited to learn about Huns Garden where I hope to learn about growing regional flowers. In addition to his five, I would add these two spots:
- My City Hens: For those interested in getting backyard chickens. 200 W. 54th Ter. Roeland Park, KS 66205
- Urbavore: For a glimpse at a very diverse urban farm and learn about their no-till growing techniques. These are the people that operate the Badseed farmer’s market. Plus, Little Freshie and El Tenedor food trucks will be there, which makes it more fun. 5500 Bennington Ave. Kansas City, MO 64129
Thanks for these recommendations. I’ve never participated in this garden tour for the reason you stated above–I just didn’t know where to begin. Enjoyed seeing your lovely garden and chickies last weekend!
