Native Plant Sale and Butterfly Event this Saturday

The Missouri Prairie Foundation will host a native plant sale this Saturday, September 16, at the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center, 4750 Troost Ave, Kansas City, Mo. Now is a great time to plant trees, shrubs, native grasses, and perennials. The cool fall weather is gentle on their sensitive roots, and there is still plenty of time to get them established before the first frost.

I attended the spring sale and it was a great event. In addition to the plant sale, there were giveaways, kid-friendly activities, and educational opportunities; I highly recommend it! Plus, we always enjoy roaming around the grounds of the Discovery Center. If you haven’t been, there are beautiful nature trails to explore, logs for the kids to play on, and a pond. We also love to visit the indoor classrooms where you can view snakes, turtles, bugs, and animal hides. It’s one of my favorite places!

The sale will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. or sell out. LOCATION

In conjunction with the sale, the Missouri Department of Conservation Discovery Center employees have organized an educational butterfly event they themed Monarch Mania. According to the website, there will be hands on activities such as: “monarchs to tag and release, milkweed giveaways, and much more for all ages.” I hope to see you there!
