House of the Week – Original Condition “Time Capsule” Tudor off Ward Parkway
One of my favorite blogs, Retro Renovation, has a term for homes that have been maintained, but remain the original cosmetic condition – time capsule homes. Unfortunately, these homes are more commonly referred to as the potentially offensive yet ubiquitous term, grandma houses. Well, I hate to offend anyone, but this is one of those properties and I love it. Wouldn’t it be so fun to buy this home and be able to decide which original features to keep and which to modernize? I hope that whoever buys it will lovingly and creatively restore it. I would hate to see a flipper turn it into a Home Depot special for some quick cash.
The traditional Tudor exterior is so stately and pretty:
I love a screened porch (and check out those cool chairs to the middle/left in the photo):
Just imagine this large living room with fresh paint and hardwoods:
Tons of potential in this large kitchen across rear of home:
Large Upstairs Bedroom (awe, look at that old fashioned blue trim and wallpaper):
Retro baths are so hip again. Just look at that subway tile, white, polished chrome, and graphic wallpaper:
This home is currently for sale at a price of $425,000, listed with Suellen Dice at Better Homes and Gardens Kansas City Homes. Considering the location – this could be a great opportunity for someone. Let me know if you want to see it or have any questions.
Oh, I so agree with you! It breaks my heart to see an old home turned into a sea of beige. This house looks like a gem. I actually really like the wallpaper pictured in the bedroom with the blue woodwork and doors.
