Design Watch: Vintage Aluminum Folding Lawn Chairs
Warmer days ahead signify that summer is finally on the way. Anyone who spends time with me in the summer knows of my passion for colorful retro vintage aluminum folding lawn chairs.
That’s me shucking corn in my favorite vintage aluminum lawn chair
Thinking back, I realize that my love of vintage aluminum lawn chairs actually stems from my hatred of those terrible folding camping bag chairs that everyone has these days. I loathe them and I would rather sit on the ground than be hunched and squeezed into one of those terrible chairs. In response, I found a cute pink retro vintage aluminum folding lawn chair several years ago at an estate sale and started bringing it with me to summer parties and tailgates. I think we have four now because I just can’t resist buying a cute one when I see it.

What I love about vintage aluminum folding lawn chairs:
- Affordability (I don’t think I have ever paid more than $7 for a chair
- They are lightweight (thanks to the aluminum frame)
- They fold flat and are easy to pack into the car
- They are colorful
- They make you look cool and design conscious
- They are sturdy and comfortable

Where did you find an aluminum folding lawn chair for $7??
I have been searching everywhere for them but no stores carry them anymore. Online they are extremely overpriced at $20-60 plus shipping.
I live in South Florida and see many people with them on the beach but don’t know where to buy them.

Quick question… I grew up w/these chairs as well and actually a pretty good Webber Weaver (small pat on back) – but, I’m having a monstrous time finding just the aluminum skeletons, whether it be chaise or chair. I love color and the weaving is therapeutic to me and huge aid for anxiety. Any ideas on where I can dig/deal or beg ?
