Tour of Historic Convent in Brookside Area this Weekend

I occasionally volunteer for the Historic Kansas City Foundation‘s annual home tour (in the fall), so they keep me informed as to all of their events. This weekend, they are hosting a tour of the Convent of Franciscan Sisters of Christ the King (former Benedictine Convent of Perpetual Adoration) located at 1409 E. Meyer Boulevard, Kansas City, on Sunday, April 25, 2pm.  According to the information emailed to me, this is a free event and everyone is welcome; but according to their website, this is a member event. I would suggest calling or emailing the contact information on their website if you would like to go – I doubt they will turn anyone away.

I’m so excited that I ran over there today to take some photos for you… I have always wondered what this building is all about, and what, if anything, goes on inside. A gentleman I met working on the outside of the building today told me there are 8 or 9 nuns that live here. I am really looking forward to Sunday’s tour and learning more about this beautiful, historic building.
