Shopping for Retro Mid-Century Furniture in Kansas City

After 12 years in our little white Brookside Cape Cottage, it is time to redecorate. Next on the list? Living room chairs.

The furniture we chose as young, clueless newlyweds was fine and served its purpose well, but honestly made no sense for the actual space we have. It is too big, too blocky, and too dark. It is time to find something smaller, lighter, and something that works with the decor in the adjoining rooms like my pink kitchen.

Furniture Shopping at J’Adore in Brookside

Overwhelmed by furniture choices online, I yearned to discover something I liked here in Kansas City. With that in mind, I turned to my trusted local Brookside store, J’adore, who sells home and garden decor, and a few select lines of furniture. They carry the furniture brands Rowe, Robin Bruce, Company C, and Norwalk Furniture; each carry many options of styles and fabrics so I was very pleased and I love the excellent customer service they provide.

At first, we were drawn to this chair by Rowe. But, after some thought, I felt it was too trendy, a bit too mid-century, and not cottage/cozy enough to go with my house.

Next I considered a few more feminine chairs, which my husband promptly voted down.

Finally, I think we have found the perfect chair. It has a hip, retro, mid-century feel in a more neutral, comfortable design, while not feeling too big, too feminine or too masculine.

Now, we must choose fabric!
