Sarah’s Picks for Mid-Century Inspired Modern Clocks for your Home
The smartphone may be diminishing the need for a wristwatch, but I still want a clock in every room of my house. What about you? When we switched to Google Fiber, out went our old style cable box with the digital clock readout and in came our sleek little Google box, sans clock. I find myself looking for that little clock every day, then getting frustrated when I remember it isn’t there anymore. Finally, after a year, I have begun to look for clocks. On my wishlist is a battery operated wall clock with a sleek, simple, modern design, and it must have the numbers. I don’t know how anyone actually tells the time on a clock without numbers. You know how I love the retro style so I went straight to Etsy and found an assortment of vintage and new clocks to choose from. Aren’t these cool? By the way, three of the clocks below are designed and made in the USA by my friends at Decoylab, a local Kansas City design company. Be sure to check out her store and buy local!

Sarah, what an interesting look at clocks. I have a clock in every room too. Once upon a time the big clocks that hung on living room walls were electric and always had a long cord plugging it into an outlet. It was so nice when clocks used batteries. First of all, home didn’t have many outlets in the rooms and the clock had to be positioned where an outlet was, which may or may not be where you wanted your living room clock. Thanks Sarah!

Signa,
Thank you for your comment! Yes, many “vintage” clocks that I see online and at antique malls are the electric type with the cord. No matter how adorable they are, I know that I do not want a big ugly cord running down my wall. And you are right – your placement will depend on the available outlets too! Also, my husband told me he thought it was interesting that I posted this blog post about watches and clocks the same day that Apple came out with a watch. Ha!
