Sarah’s Favorite Paint Color for Staging Homes For Sale in Kansas City
The Best Paint Color for Home Staging
Would you like to know my favorite paint color? It’s my secret weapon. It is a warm neutral white and it always looks good. I can guarantee that several of my listings have sold for more money because the sellers painted the interior this color.
I use Sherwin Williams Alabaster on almost all of my listings that require paint. It is easy to dress up, it is neutral, it is comforting and warm (but not too warm). It works with white trim, but it also looks especially great with natural wood trim in a variety of wood tones. This color fits right in with the rise in popularity of natural tones and textures in decor. Personally, I’m happy to see the cool greys and stark tones going away that became so popular the last 10-15 years. Bring on the cozy, natural vibe!
Paint Equals Profit
Often, my clients come to me wondering whether to paint. They might think their colors are too personal, bright, or just won’t appeal to very many buyers. They might think their paint looks old, dingy, or scuffed. Sometimes, the colors are fine and neutral and we can clean it up and spruce up the staging. However, quite often, I tell them that we can paint and accessorize/stage in a different way that will produce a greater profit. Usually, sellers jump on this. The idea that a few cans of paint and a couple day’s work will earn them more money is appealing! Even without changing colors, a coat of paint can make a worn out home feel fresh, clean, and new which attracts more interest.

Other Nice White Paint Colors
Honorable mention goes to these white paint colors:
- Dover White, Sherwin Williams: Warmer and slightly deeper than Alabaster. Works well in darker, north-facing rooms. It has considerable warmth, and is almost an off-white. I have this in my living room and love it. It feels very cozy in this room which has limited natural light. I once used Dover White in a local Waldo Craftsman Bungalow with natural wood trim, a tan brick fireplace, and limited natural light – it was stunning. I think it is a great color for Craftsman homes.
- Pure White, Sherwin Williams: Lighter, brighter, and more neutral. A truer white. Often used in kitchens.

Save Money on Sherwin Williams When I’m Your Agent
I have a contractor’s account at Sherwin Williams and get a deep discount on paint. When I’m working with a seller to stage and prepare a house to sell, I can help them get a discount which is nearly half price on some paints. If you’ve bought paint recently, then you know how much this helps.
