Pick of the Week – Mid-Century Modern Atomic Ranch in Kansas City
My pick of the week is a mid-century modern atomic ranch located in Kansas City’s northland. This home has vaulted ceilings, clean lines, ceiling beams with a natural finish, walls of windows, a raised hearth, double decks which overlook the half acre yard, and an uncomplicated exterior facade. It is currently listed for sale with yours truly for $200,000 This home is now sold.
The living room feels very hip and modern, but with a definite nod to the past. The lighting and hardwood floors are new. The wall of windows overlooks the deck and large backyard with a view to the west.
The uncomplicated exterior facade features horizontal lines, updated retro-inspired lighting, and overhanging eaves which provide protection from the sun and elements and help to preserve the siding.
The kitchen is bright and cheerful, with light colors and wood accents. There are beautiful touches throughout, with remodeled bathrooms, a finished walk-out basement (meaning it has doors and windows to the outside and above ground level), designer lighting, and surprises around every corner.
Looking to buy or sell a mid-century modern home in the Kansas City area?
I have an appreciation for distinct mid-century properties, and have the experience to help you navigate this unique market.

Oh no! I saw this online yesterday and got tears in my eyes! I love everything about this house. It is a bit out of our price range, but some very lucky person will snatch it up quickly I am sure! It is my dream house!
Just found your blog and I’m loving it! We’re working our way toward selling our long-time home and looking for something mid-century modern (or building one). Thanks! Julie
@JulieLarocco,
Thank you for the compliment! I am glad you found my little corner of the blog world. Where is your home now? Let me know if I can help you sell your current home or offer any other advice on the sell/buy process in any way. I am in a 1930’s cape cod now which is very cute and sufficient for our needs, but I also dream of moving into a more modern home one day. My ideal would be a big mid-century modern courtyard home, a la this post: http://sarahsnodgrass.com/blog/inspiration-retro-1959-home-magazine-features-mid-century-modern-courtyard-homes/
Best of luck!
Love the house! Glad to be living in it!
Congratulations, Matt. I received scores of emails and comments about your home – people love it! I hope you are very happy there. -Sarah
