Pick of the Week #2
I am happy to see some new modern homes being built in Kansas City proper. This one is currently under construction but it is for sale. It sits on a lot at 34th and Gennessee Street (just north of the restaurant and shopping district on 39th Street, near KU Med) which has a crazy view of downtown to the northeast. This view really adds so much value to the home. Feel free to contact me for more information!
I live in Volker just around the corner from this property. While I appreciate the modern design, it is out of context for the neighborhood. The prominent garage and lack of front porch do not fit in with the rest of the housing stock in Volker. The neighborhood is mostly shirtwaists and bungalows – mostly with front porches and rear garages.
Volker is starting to see more and more tear-downs and infill that are out of character. This has prompted the neighborhood to begin investigating a conservation district to give us a little bit of control over what gets built.
Modern design great, but in neighborhoods like this it needs to have a big front porch and the garage hidden away in the back.
