My Secondhand 60’s Floral Mad Men Chair
While catching up on this season’s Mad Men shows, I realized that I share the same upholstery fabric as Trudy Campbell (Pete Campbell’s wife for you Mad Men watchers). The costume and interior design in this show is utterly fantastic so I am pretty sure that I let out a big squeal when I realized the match. There is nothing quite like the punchy vintage fabrics and patterns of the 1960’s. Take a peek at my bedroom chair:
It looks like a Vera Neumann fabric, doesn’t it? Now look at the set for Trudy and Pete’s house in Mad Men:
I recently thrifted this chair at Revival Home Furnishings, a new and consignment and used furniture store at 90th and Metcalf in Overland Park. If you aren’t familiar with the store, it is a good place to find gently used furniture and home decor at reasonable prices. It isn’t dirt cheap and some of the styles are hit and miss, but everything is in good condition and you can usually find something interesting. Once in a while you can find a real gem like my happy little chair, and I have seen nice sofas for a substantial discount off new. I recommend it!
