Moving to Kansas City? How to Choose a Neighborhood
Moving to Kansas City? Not sure where to land within the sprawling metropolis?
Here are some factors to consider before choosing a neighborhood:
- Walkability (i.e. sidewalks, places nearby)
- Age and price of homes
- Nearby amenities
- City services such as schools, trash/recycling/yard waste, taxes, libraries, condition of infrastructure
- Proximity to areas of interest such as downtown, parks, stadiums, or highways, etc.
- Culture
- Space requirements for your lifestyle, hobbies, and/or pets
- Consider whether you do or don’t want to be in a neighborhood association
- Commute time
- Kid-friendly
When moving to a new city, you first really have to consider what’s important to you and your family. Your favorite neighborhood may not actually be a good match for you. By really thinking about the factors above and talking with an experienced real estate agent or a knowledgeable local, the decision will become clear. I enjoy helping people learn about Kansas City and all of its different communities; there is a place for everyone. I personally live in Brookside which is an older neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri, but I have helped buyers and sellers all over the vast metro area.
