Missouri Sales Tax Holiday: Shop Tax-Free on Home Appliances

The state of Missouri offers consumers a seven-day exemption from state sales taxes on certain ENERGY STAR certified new appliances. The state sales tax holiday, known as the “Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday,” applies to ENERGY STAR-certified appliances up to $1,500 per appliance intended for either personal or business use. The Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday runs from April 19, 2017 through April 25, 2017.

If the idea is to spur retail sales, this sales tax holiday worked on me like a charm. I have spent no less than two solid hours searching for a new refrigerator. If it weren’t for my itty-bitty, teeny-tiny, retro-sized refrigerator opening, I would have this beautiful new KitchenAid Refrigerator. Isn’t it marvelous? I love the rounded handles in the chrome finish on this particular refrigerator. It matches perfectly with my pink kitchen, white appliances, and chrome hardware. At first I thought I wanted a side-by-side refrigerator, but then I read several reviews complaining about lack of space for large items (such as a turkey or large platter) so I decided on a french door refrigerator with a bottom-freezer. Ha ha, nice try me. It turns out that I only have space for a boring, small, plain old ugly refrigerator. Guess I will just stick with what I have and be grateful. Perhaps maybe you, dear reader, can find the refrigerator of your dreams instead. Happy (sales-tax free) shopping. According to the Missouri Department of Revenue website, the following ENERGY STAR certified appliances qualify for the holiday, but be sure to verify before purchasing:
