A Kansas City Shirtwaist Home is Featured on Design Sponge

Design Sponge

This Kansas City home was recently featured on Design Sponge.

We enjoy reading Design Sponge for decorating and staging inspiration. What a treat to find a local Shirtwaist gem among their articles this week! I have toured and sold so many Kansas City Shirtwaist homes; they are among my favorite home styles in town. I love the symmetry, front porches, natural woodwork, and use of natural materials such as limestone. Shirtwaists date from about 1900-1920, and are either two or three-story homes, with a brick or stone front porch, and generally wood siding on the remainder of the home. They have a steeply pitched roof with a center gable, and are narrow, symmetrical homes found in densely developed neighborhoods (such as Midtown, Hyde Park, or historic Northeast). It looks like this particular home has retained many original features, but we love the modern updates and liberal use of my favorite color – pink!

Kansas City, Missouri Considers Ordinance Which Would Impose New Fees and Regulations on Airbnb Rentals

According to a recent article in the Kansas City Star, the City Plan Commission will soon consider a proposed ordinance which would require Airbnb hosts to register with the city and pay annual registration fees. As a realtor, I have many clients who utilize Airbnb both for primary and investment properties, and I would hate for these fees to discourage investors in our local real estate economy. I would think that these short-term rentals may actually be better maintained than typical long-term rentals.
