The original cost to erect this building was $150,000; In 2007, you couldn’t even get close to buying a condo in this building for that amount. The current average sales price is around $500,000 per condo.
Today, the Hotel Monroe Condominiums is a sleek condo conversion in the heart of the crossroads. The hotel was built sometime around 1920, to serve the traveling salesmen coming and going from nearby Union Station. This is the perfect building for the urban dweller – it’s walking distance to entertainment, bars and restaurants and the MAX bus stop is just outside the front door. There doesn’t seem to be a bunch of extra amenities, but it does have a covered parking garage and most units, if not all, have balconies – both of which Kansas Citians place a high value.
