I was most excited to learn that the idea of “patio homes” originated in the 1970’s, as seen on slide #11. Today, patio homes are still a very popular housing type wherein a monthly maintenance fee covers the cost of exterior and lawn maintenance, freeing the homeowner from this chore. Patio homes are a sort of hybrid between a home and an apartment, and are popular with people who desire low maintenance but want to retain the connection to the outdoors.
